Chris HEATH: Programs and Utilities
I used to do lots of small-scale computer programming on my Macintosh
at home. Here you will find the programs and utilities that I have
brought to completion. More recently, I lost access to Macs and started
programming for Windows instead.
The software is free to a good home except that, for the programs
where the source code is not provided, I will ask that you don't
disassemble or hack the program in any way.
If you have any suggestions for improvements or find any bugs,
I would love you to e-mail me
about them. If you like the programs and wish to tell me that,
just send an e-card to me at firstname.lastname@example.org . :)
- Current version: 1.1.5
- Platform: Macintosh, systems 6.0 - 9.1
- Description: A scientific calculator with
macros, constants (such as e, the charge on an electron),
and conversions (such as inches to centimeters). Allows
binary, octal, hexadecimal, and of course decimal numbers.
Has a small help facility
to get you started with some of the handy features.
Currently you have to
use ResEdit to define new macros and conversions, and
I am not even thinking about writing an icon editor
etc just for this.
- Next version:
I'm not sure when I'll get around to this, but I'd like to
port this program to Windows.
- Current Version: 2.0
This version has a totally revised user interface.
- Previous Version: 1.2.5
For V2.0: Macintosh PowerPC, Systems 8.0 - 9.1
For V1.2.5: Macintosh, Systems 7.0 - 9.1
This is a simple program to change file creators and types.
It provides a nice graphical interface for this rather
technical side of the Mac System.
It is especially useful for changing the icons of files you
have downloaded off the Internet. Sometimes the browser recognizes
the type of file it is downloading, but other times it appears with
a blank icon. Use this program to give the file the correct icon
so that you can double click on the file to open it.
- Download old version (1.2.5):
- Current Version: 1.2
- Platform: Macintosh, Systems 7.0 - 9.1
This is an improved Printer Driver for the StyleWriter
printer (not the StyleWriter II or Color StyleWriter).
You can choose whether to print directly to
the printer, or to create a standard Macintosh picture
(on the clipboard, in a PICT file or in an edition file)
which is optimized for later printing to a StyleWriter.
When you print the pictures later, for example after
having pasted them into a word processor, you must still
be using this enhanced printer driver otherwise the
optimal quality of the pictures will be lost.
- Technical Info:
It would not be that much work to make similar
drivers for another type of printer, since it is
a "parasite" - it does its extra processing and then
calls the old printer driver. However, it would be much
more difficult to make one version work for all printers.
if you would like a version for a different printer, although
there is a limit to what I can do without a Mac.
- Current Version: 2.1
- Platform: Windows 95, 98, Me, NT, 2000
This is an improved version of my Java game
Othello. It includes improved graphics,
computer versus computer and human versus human modes,
and online help.
